The “L” Vitamin

loveee

Researching about depression for my Nutritional diploma and I came across this.  Wouldn’t you agree?  If not, I prescribe upping your dose and reassess:

Vitamin L (The Love Vitamin)

“..as coined by humanologist, Bethany ArgIsle.  One of the most important nutrients for optimum health is a daily dose (or more) of Love.  This vital human emotion/expression/ experience is necessary for the optimal functioning of people and all of their cells tissues, and organs.  It is found in most of nature – in foods, domestic animals, friends, and family – and is used to heal a wide variety of diseases.  There are no toxic effects, but deficiency can cause a wide range of ailments.. .

.. ..This vitamin acts as the ‘Universal’ vitalizing energy.. ..is particularly important to heart function and the circulation of warmth and joy.  Digestion is very dependent on appropriate doses of vitamin L, as is the function of the nervous system.  Adrenaline, the brain endorphins (natural tranquilizers and energizers), and other hormones are enhanced by vitamin L as well.”

Flow

kyotoriver

There’s something I feel is repressing,

Something trying to limit my expressing..

But in yoga my words can flow, like there’s no limits above or below;

When I try to structure my sentence for basic instruction,

That’s where I meet with my ugly obstruction..

I love to dance with the rhythm of each sound,

Finding it can be quite profound..

To express ones own uniqueness, showing of ourselves simply our best;

Rather than working to always be so concise,

My brain bores quickly trying make speech overly precise..

I live in colour,

What’s the point in anything other?..

Everything in my world seems more bright, each time I give up this outward internal fight..

If one could simply express without fear or feeling disturbed,

Perhaps my communications would be less perturbed?..

Brilliant Buckwheat

buckwheat

Why it’s Brilliant:

  • Gluten free
  • Complete, vegan protein (contains all essential amino acids)
  • Iron, zinc, manganese and magnesium rich (essential minerals)
  • Makes excellent pancakes (taste and consistency)
  • Easy to digest

Buckwheat, NOT a member of the wheat or grasses family but actually related to rhubarb or sorrel, the parts of it generally eaten are it’s triangular fruit seeds (groats), it was one of the oldest crops but became less and less grown recently due to it not thriving so well when used alongside lots of nitrogen fertilizers (bit strange to consider if it doesn’t need it then why use it!.?).  It’s thought to have originated in South East Asia and is the primary ingredient to the Japanese Soba noodles.  Yum.

Realistically Good

indulge

Do you like to indulge?  A lot?  Do you like to keep healthy and always do the right thing for your body?

I currently wave through both of these, my alignment to the healthy becoming more balanced and less strict so that when I do indulge it’s not always so fierce..  We’re human, we have many parts to us that need satisfying, much like our tastes in foods; sometimes we need salty sometimes we need sweet.

Especially if one is a woman and has a monthly cycle of hormones to contend with, the potential ups and downs, feeling perhaps the need to take in more calories during one or 2 weeks; our bodies go through a lot of changes constantly (male or female) so it’s important to listen to the signals for what our body and perhaps our minds may need in terms of nourishment or release.  We LOVE dark chocolate in my home, it’s our main vice, but for 1 week of the month I don’t need it, for another week I crave it, and thus consume more to keep in alignment with what my taste buds and body are calling for.  Yes it contains sugar (although not too much in 90% dark) and lots of fats but these help me fight the pangs of potential PMS and it feels nice (check out the science on that..).  In my opinion, so long as it’s not every day we scoff what’s ‘bad’ for us and that we still eat our fresh fruit and veggies; maintaining a good vitamin and mineral balance; it can be beneficial to give in and accept what we crave at times.  There’s value in EVERYTHING we do, relaxing into it ensures we can potentially find out a bit deeper why we desire certain things; watching these desires is sometimes also key to releasing them IF they don’t actually serve us.

Regret serves no one, if you ate those several chocolate bars, drank that wine, smoked, didn’t exercise, whatever; relish in the comfort it bought you so you can choose more what serves you best in the current moment; regrets about the past simply takes you out of your consciousness about being here and now, how else can you tune into what it is you need in this moment?

Frazzled?

 frazzled

I’m being blessed with many sessions to instruct recently, from meditation through to strong Pilates classes, thus I see a lot of bodies and the majority of them seem to be more tired than I realised at this time of year!

Caffeine helps but for how long?

Getting more into instructing the physical side of my job (yoga and Pilates more so than Reiki or meditations), it’s great the more I get to know different groups of people so that they can appreciate I’ll give them a VERY hard work out if that’s what I feel I’m needed to give, but sometimes, the minds of many are up for super physical Ra Ra Ra!! (which is very fun to deliver!) But, their bodies and eyes seem to say something totally different to me, more like, “be kind and gentle with me, I’ve had a hard xxx”.  This feels challenging to administer, as the mind/ego quite often will not thank you for leaving out the super sweatathon in favor of something more ahhhhhhhhhh than Ra Ra Ra (both session types require similar energy from me so it makes no difference except to my gut instincts)..

Finding this balance in my own life too can be mystifying when living in such a hardworking and fast paced city, I’m getting better at it, but, being freelance I’ve realised is rewarding but tricky to self-manage at times.

When you’re shattered and frazzled do you still push yourself 120%?  Or do you listen and perhaps rest or go for more gentle activity?

Why is it so many of us seem ruled by the head rather than what our body maybe screaming at us about in signs of pain, fatigue or everyday niggles?  This morning I had no choice, I missed my alarm to instruct a 07.15am class, *gulp*, so not cool but I guess this is the universe telling me I need to rest this morning!  Not great for future of covering that class, but this is enough of a wake up call for me to ensure I get that rest when it’s feeling needed..

Big Up Brilliant Corners

P-06_990

If you’re reading this you probably also know that Brilliant Corners is the home to the Core-Focus Tuesdays Sessions and has been monumental in helping us to launch these beautiful classes, also attended by the Patel men themselves when they’re in town.

Tomorrow they have a hearing to extend the licensing hours for the restaurant to help share the love of this amazing venue and kitchen even further; especially considering the lack of  (well for me at least, I know what I like when it comes to food, drink and vibes) places around which have the same kind of living room, family feel.  Thus, the class tomorrow is intended to share much love and good energy back into our yoga home as the hearing kicks off at 7.00pm – the same time as the class!

If you can’t make the hearing or the class then please hold a space for us and send all the good vibes you can to the boys so we can hope to keep sharing the Brilliant corners good vibes even more!  And if you’ve not tried the food, drinks or the yoga there then why not?!  😉

Much love and prosperity to all. x

We all need a little extra care sometimes..

caree

How are you?  Really, not how are your problems but how are you feeling?  Consider this a rhetorical question; as the only person who can give us what we need is our self.  However, sometimes, when everything feels a bit overwhelming, it can help to have the objective input from another..

Sometimes even those who provide support (which is a lot of us!) need someone to share a bit of energy and love back their way. It may not be how we expect, but energy is energy – a hug, a smile, a conversation or in silence, a shoulder or even an amazing reflexology/Reiki, yoga or meditation session – every moment and intention helps..

Many thanks to the “The Hackney Healer“, Karen Ryx, today – another wonderful facial reflexology session; from fighting with tears to a true smile in my world.  Now to continue my own internal work, but having that short time ‘holiday’ from the chaos which can stir up inside, helps me to see again my own path and strength.
